Customize Your Learning Algorithm
Improve your study sessions by adjusting the learning algorithms in Noji. This feature lets you change how often you review cards to match your personal learning speed, which helps you remember them better.
Noji offers three main spaced repetition algorithms — General Spaced Repetition, Study languages and Study medical materials. You can personalize them to better suit your needs and study pace.
How to Find Algorithm Settings
To change the algorithm for a specific deck, go to the deck settings and tap on the Algorithm settings tab. This will open a menu where you can adjust things like Presets for algorithms, the number of cards you study each day, and set up custom repetition times.
Using Presets
In the Presets section, you can choose from different default algorithms. There are three spaced repetition algorithms and a General algorithm, which is helpful if you need to quickly review all your cards before a test.
For more details on each algorithm, refer to this dedicated section for more information.
New and Max Cards Per Day
The New cards per day setting lets you decide how many new cards you want to study each day. The Max cards per day setting sets the total number of cards (new and review) you’ll see daily. You can set this anywhere from 0 to 3000, depending on how many cards you want to study.
If you feel overwhelmed by too many review cards, this setting can help control your daily workload.
Advanced Settings
For more customization, you can explore the Advanced settings. It may seem a bit complicated, but we’ll explain it simply.
Spaced repetition works in steps, where your cards move through different stages until you’ve fully memorized them. Once a card is learned, it graduates.
Review Steps
You start with one Review step, but you can add more steps to create a personalized study process. Just remember, adding too many Review steps can make your study sessions longer.
Each time you add a Review step, you’ll need to set the timeframe for that step. The steps must follow one after another, so make sure the intervals are realistic.
For example, with three review steps, you’ll see the card four times:
New card
Review 1 (12 hours later)
Review 2 (1 day and 12 hours later)
Review 3 (2 days later) — at this point, the card graduates!
Graduation Modifiers
You can adjust different settings related to card graduation, such as Easy Bonus, Interval Modifier, and Max Interval.
Easy Bonus: This setting changes how long it takes before you see a card again after marking it as Easy. This gives you more time to focus on harder cards.
Interval Modifier: This adjusts how often you see graduated cards. For example, if you set it to 200%, your cards will appear two times less often.
Max Interval: This sets the maximum time before you see a graduated card again, from 1 to 1000 days.
Saving Your Changes
Once you’ve made changes, don’t forget to click "Save" to apply your settings. If no changes are made, the "Save" button will stay inactive.
Your algorithm icon will change to "Custom," which means your personalized settings are now active.
Important: If you switch back to a preset algorithm, your custom settings will be lost.
