Explore Spaced Repetition and General Study modes

Updated over a week ago

Noji's study algorithms are designed to be both user-friendly and advanced, but understanding their nuances can help you maximize their effectiveness. Essentially, you have the option to study using Spaced Repetition or a General review mode.

What is Spaced Repetition?

Spaced repetition is a scientifically-supported method that has proven effective for long-term retention of information.

Instead of overwhelming yourself with all the material at once, this approach schedules reviews at progressively longer intervals. The idea is that spacing out your study sessions helps your brain retain information more effectively over time.

Noji employs this method through its spaced repetition (SR) algorithm, which tailors review sessions to your learning needs.

What Algorithms Are Available?

Noji offers two primary study modes:

  • General Spaced Repetition: Optimized for gradual and effective learning, especially useful for long-term retention.

  • General Algorithm: Ideal for comprehensive reviews where you go through all your cards sequentially.

Additionally, there are two specialized SR-based algorithms tailored for:

  • Study languages: Tailored to support vocabulary and grammar learning.Designed to manage extensive information efficiently.

  • Study medical materials: Designed to manage extensive information efficiently.

How to Switch Between Algorithms

To change your study algorithm, go to the settings of each deck and click the “⋮” icon in the top right corner.

Note!
Changing your study algorithm will reset your study progress

Best Practices for Using Algorithms

  • Scenario 1: For exam preparation or tackling challenging subjects, begin studying at least a week in advance. Spaced Repetition algorithms are most effective when given enough time to schedule reviews.

  • Scenario 2: If you're in a time crunch and need to review quickly, use the General mode. This allows you to go through all your cards in a single session, which is less efficient than spaced repetition but helpful in a pinch.

💡Quick Tip: Creating your own flashcards is excellent for memory retention, but if you're short on time, consider using pre-made decks from the Library.

  • Scenario 3: Start with Spaced Repetition, then switch to General mode for a more comprehensive review or self-testing. Reviewing all cards in one go can boost your confidence.

With this knowledge, you're ready to navigate Noji's algorithms and handle any learning challenge that comes your way!
