Image Occlusion

Use Noji's Image Occlusion feature to hide specific objects in your flashcards

Updated over a week ago

For those diving into visually intensive subjects like anatomy or diagram-heavy topics, effectively learning intricate details often requires direct interaction with images. Noji's Image Occlusion feature streamlines this process by allowing you to focus on specific parts of an image, making your study sessions more productive and efficient.

What is Image Occlusion?

Image Occlusion (IO) functions similarly to Cloze deletion, but with images. It enables you to obscure certain parts of an image, allowing you to concentrate on the hidden areas and test your knowledge on them.

Getting Started with Image Occlusion

To begin using Image Occlusion in Noji, you have two options:

  • from Toolbar: Click on the Image Occlusion icon in the toolbar to open an image directly within the editor.

  • from Attachment Preview: Open an image attachment and use the available button to launch the Image Occlusion editor.

Useful tip
When using your phone or tablet, you can operate with either your finger or a stylus/pencil. If you want to use this feature on a desktop, your mouse cursor will work perfectly as well. When working with our web version you can also use Backspace on your keyboard - to delete a selected Mask. And H - to switch between Navigating through the image or Creating Masks.

How It Works

1. Creating Masks: Click and drag to select areas of the image you want to hide. Each selected area becomes a 'mask' that you can adjust:

  • Resize, Move, Rotate, or Delete masks as needed.

  • Zoom and Pan to better position your masks.

  • Use the Show/Hide switch to toggle the mask’s visibility. This affects only your editing view.

2. Masking Options:

  • Hide One, Guess One: During study sessions, only one masked area is visible at a time.

  • Hide All, Guess One: All masked areas are covered, but emphasis is placed on the mask related to the current question.

After setting up your masks, a small black preview icon will appear on your image to indicate that Image Occlusion is active.

Additional Notes

  • Mask Management: Each mask creates a separate flashcard, allowing you to track progress for individual sections of the image.

  • Compatibility: Image Occlusion does not work with Reverse card mode, which ensures consistency in how you study.

With Noji’s Image Occlusion feature, you can turn complex images into effective study material, enhancing your ability to recall and understand specific visual information.
